On this day 25 years ago, we lost nearly 3,000 lives, including one of our own.
Among the first responders who answered the call was our former Local 589 brother, Gerard “Jerry” Dewan. A proud Roslindale native, MBTA Arborway driver, and Boston Carmen’s Union member, Jerry left the MBTA to pursue his dream of becoming a New York firefighter.
Jerry was one of the first rescuers to enter the Twin Towers. Serving with Ladder Company 3 in Lower Manhattan, Jerry and 11 of his fellow firefighters lost their lives while helping evacuate people from the World Trade Center.
25 years later, we remember Jerry and the nearly 3,000 lives lost that day.
