The Trust began offering benefits on July 1, 2015. Prior to July 1, 2015 these benefits were offered directly to participating employees and retirees by the MBTA. The cost of the Trust’s benefits are shared between the MBTA, Active employees and Retirees. The Fund is governed by a six member Board of Trustees, three of whom represent Labor and three of whom represent Management. The Fund currently provides Dental insurance, Vision insurance, Life insurance and Medicare Part B Reimbursement benefits to enrolled employees and their dependents, and retirees and their dependents, in accordance with negotiated Collective Bargaining Agreements between the MBTA and its Unions.
