Local 589 Mourns Former President James Lydon

It is with great sadness that the Local 589 Executive Board shares the passing of former Local 589 President James Lydon.

Brother Jim dedicated decades to Local 589. He served on the Executive Board from 1987 to 2001 as Delegate for Division 1, Recording Secretary, and President. He was also instrumental in the fight against the Weld administration’s efforts to privatize the MBTA in the 1990s.

We are grateful for Brother Lydon’s years of service, leadership, and commitment to our union. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside him.

Visiting hours will be held at Casper Funeral Home, 187 Dorchester St. South Boston, on September 12th from 12-2pm.
