Statement on MBTA Employee Vaccine Mandate

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Today, Governor Baker issued an executive order that Massachusetts state workers must provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination on or by October 17. By no means are we agreeing to these terms without negotiation and will continue to fight on your behalf.

Throughout this pandemic, we have played an essential role in transporting frontline workers (police, firefighters, nurses, health care providers, grocery workers, and other vital professions) throughout the state to their jobs.

We are committed to protecting your interests, your safety, and that of your family. We will enter into dialogue with state and MBTA officials, but only if they are prepared to work with us.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact your delegate or another member of the e-board.

In Solidarity,
Jim Evers, President
Boston Carmen’s Union, Local 589

The MBTA needs to be held liable for any side effects that occur if they want to assist in this tyranny and put our personal lives in their hands. We all know the side effects of the vaccines and if any of them occur at any point of our lives they should be held responsible especially that liar Steve

I hope 589 and the many other unions at the MBTA really actually challenge this instead of rolling over and accepting as is or some meaningless “perk” that management offers up. If I could retire tomorrow I certainly would for I’ve never felt so worthless and under appreciated in over 22 years of working here. The management and corruption is out of control. UPMC Workpartners should be investigated for I along with many others have encountered incompetence or they flat out claim they did not receive paperwork or emails constantly!! I feel this is a personal choice on getting vaccinated especially after Baker kicked us out of being vaccinated earlier than when we were promised to be eligible to receive it. Negotiate an early buyout and I would run out the door!! I seriously hope what I’ve stated is taken seriously.
