We are celebrating a major WIN for Carmen’s Local 589 in 2025 — The Act Relative to Assault and Battery Upon a Transit Worker (H4645) was met with unanimous support and officially signed by Governor Healey! This legislation protects transit workers across Massachusetts and we couldn’t be more proud of our efforts to get this across the finish line. Thank you to all of our members who took action to contact legislators and share your support for this legislation as it made its way through the House and Senate and eventually onto the Governor’s desk.
Our year as a union was also filled with celebrations, family-friendly events, members providing top notch services across all routes, and favorable election results! And who can forget our annual golf tournament where we successfully raised funds for our COPE (Committee on Political Education) fund! At the 61st International ATU Conference, Local 589 was proud to be recognized for having more members contributing to the fund than ANY OTHER LOCAL!
