We cannot stress enough the importance of enrolling in the GIC before Friday, September 27, 2013. To wait is to risk the potential of not having any health care for you or your family.
Please make time to attend one of the many healthcare fairs that the MBTA is running. Please note that the two biggest fairs are being held on Sept. 14th and 18th at the Boston Teachers Union Hall. Representatives from all the providers will be at these fairs to answer your questions. Click here for a full list of other locations and times.
You can also go to 10 Park Plaza on the 2nd floor in the library Mon-Fri 9-5 to join. It is imperative that you all take the time to review these new plans and join before Friday, September 27, 2013. Please don’t leave this important decision to the last minute.

Hi Steve, this is Local 589’s Webmaster. I only handle updates to the website since I am not a member of the executive board or a spokesperson for the union. That said, the quickest way to get an answer to a question about benefits is to call the union office. It is often more effective, too, since many times, members have additional questions on top of the ones they have asked in their comment. Hope this helps. Sincerely, Local 589’s Webmaster

Hi Robert,
You can always call the union office with any questions you have at (617) 542-8212. Also, we have just received word from our attorneys that the MBTA has sued in Suffolk Superior Court to set aside the award of Arbitrator Sarah Kerr Garraty. Click on the following link to read more about it: https://carmensunion589.org/2013/09/update-mbta-sues-to-set-aside-arbitrators-award/.
Thank you,
Local 589 Webmaster
Why not answer the questions here for everyone to see????
Why call for a private answer???
Why the censorship here???
Why did you ignore Robert but not Patty & Richard??

So did we lose dental or not? Can’t figure out any info on that.
I retired in 2004 with a retirement package of full paid medical for me and my spouse. I gave up part of my life for these benefits. I have rights and deserve to keep my retirement package as is.. I paid my union dues for 34 years and now the union just walks away and I am now having to pay for my medical. This is not legal. Who do I contact for further information.
