Update to the Contract Arbitration/Court Case

Good Morning 589 Members:

We wanted to provide you with an update to the Contract Arbitration/Court Case.

We had a meeting this morning with General Manager Scott, General Counsel Scott Reed, the Director of Labor Relations Kim Poirier, the COO Sean McCarthy, and Deputy Secretary Perez.

As a result of that meeting, we have been given assurances that the MBTA’s court appeal of our Arbitration Award is being WITHDRAWN. Also, that the WAGE INCREASES will be in the next available payroll week and that the RETRO PAYMENTS will be issued the 1st payroll week in April of this year.

We want to thank you, the members, for your patience throughout all this. We appreciate your comments and your opinions on this matter as well as your continued support and commitment to this Executive Board.

In solidarity,

Executive Board
Boston Carmen’s Union, Local 589

I’ve been wondering why you never mentioned discussions on whether it was possible to grand father retirees at a certain date with the medical. For those of us on a fixed income it’s really a stab in the back for us since we put in our 30 1/2 years for the benefits guaranteed through agreement with the company and arbitrated sessions.

Darlene said it all…. THANK YOU JESUS!!!

Now can anybody tell me why, when, etc…. what you know about this GIC business…. WHY GIC? Is this not a governmental insurance plan? Since when is the MBTA falling under “state” BS?

Thanks for any information you can provide..

    • Bus Man on January 28, 2014 at 11:04 am

Did they put this in writing or it’s just another empty promise scheme?

    • member on January 28, 2014 at 3:33 am

Come on guys give us the details. The MBTA hired one of the most anti labor law firms in the country to attack the arbitration award and then what?
the MBTA just decides to forget the whole thing?
Come on union officials tell the members what was discussed at the metting with the MBTA that led to their change of heart.
What was the quid pro quo?
By the way did the next contract come up at this metting?

Thank you for the hard work. Can you tell us all the final results please, or is it just what the original agreement when the ( arbitrator/Court ) made their decision.

Great job to all. So let’s talk a little about our next contract. I believe
that the MBTA and Union executives should agree to a time table not to exceed 18 months. In this way the retro pay out will be much less. The membership will see a good faith effort on their behalf ( T ) . We all
work together to give our customers the best service possible. I’m
great full to be a part of a union of highly skilled and classy group
    of brothers and sisters.

We are after all the BEST !!!

    Having a great Day

    • Collins on January 27, 2014 at 11:24 am

Great news, what about our Health insurance? when will we move to the GIC?

    • Stillwaiting on January 27, 2014 at 11:19 am

Finally Thank You. But till I see the actual check, then I will believe what the union says. Last year the union said we were getting the check in October and the T appealed the decision last minute. I think the MBTA does not want to upset the employees any more than they have already did. But thank you for your representation. Yours truly, Alienated-Mad MBTA Employee

Thanks to our Executive Board for staying strong during this difficult time. Lets hope our next contract can be settled in a more timely manner.

Thank you to our Union Representatives for standing their ground and having our backs and fighting a good fight. I knew that with patience, we would prevail.
