Larry Kelly began his career with the MBTA in July 1988 on the Red Line as a part-time Collector. Later he worked as a train attendant, motor-person and yard motor-person classifications.
Brother Kelly was promoted to full-time in 1991 and continued to work as a motor-person and for a short time as an Inspector.
Always a vocal and active member of Local 589, and when he felt times warranted it a critic of the Union, Brother Kelly decided to move from the sideline to the playing field – winning election as a Barn Captain in 2005
Larry Kelly was elected as RTL/AFC Delegate in December 2007 in his first try for full-time Union office. Brother Kelly is a Delegate to the ATU’s New England Joint Board, a Delegate to the AFL-CIO and the Greater Boston Central Labor Council and was appointed to the Boston Carmen’s Union BY-Law Committee.
Larry is the proud father of three wonderful children – 17 year old Connor, 16-year old Brett and 10-year old Alexis.
