I am sorry not to be able to attend the membership meeting on 4/17
but hope to see my union 589 giving their support to Elizabeth Warren
for Senator…and that all employees active and retired know that
Scott Brown voted against us when he voted FOR the transportation bill.
which stripped us of our benefit of Medicare payments and life insurance
and other items…I personally called his office last September and he
didn’t REALIZE the extent of what would happen to ME… whats worst voting for something you don’t know is in the bill….that doesn’t help me..
it cost me $300 a month out of my pension plus losing my life insurance

This debt goes back more than 10 years. For decades the MBTA has put expenses on the credit card. today the MBTA is 5.5 BILLION in debt. over the next 10 years the T will pay 2.2 BILLION in interest payments .

This fare increase is not going to come close to fix anything.
Cuting service, cuts revenue .

This huge debt load will require a massive state budget bail out to pay down the 5.5 BILLION so that the interest expense is more manageable.

Local 589 is so right ! Good public transportation is a civil — and human — right. Let’s get serious about moving our tax dollars from unnecessary wars and bloated Pentagon spending, and use that money for needed public services like the MBTA ! Some of those other more State/local budgetary solutions look good too. No need to keep raising fares and reducing service!
