Peggy LaPaglia was hired by the MBTA in August 1989 as a part-time bus driver at the Cabot Garage. Sister LaPaglia was promoted to full-time in 1994 and worked at Cabot for over ten years.
Peggy continued her career at the MBTA as a car cleaner for 2 years and then went to the Red Line in the AFC classification for four years where she was elected Barn Captain.
In December 2007, Peggy LaPaglia made history as the first woman elected to full-time union office when she was elected Assistant Secretary.
Always active in Local 589, Sister LaPaglia has been elected Delegate to the ATU International Convention 4 times. She represents Local 589 as a Delegate to the Massachusetts AFL-CIO, the Greater Boston Central Labor Council and is on the Audit Committee.
Peggy was born and lived most of her life South Boston. She recently moved with her husband Wayne and daughter Brianna to Rockland. |
